Job Posting: Outreach and Operations Coordinator – Ottawa

The office of Catherine McKenna, Member of Parliament for Ottawa Centre, is currently seeking
a qualified candidate to fill the role of Outreach and Operations Coordinator. This is a full-
time position.

PURPOSE:
This position is responsible for proactive community outreach, local stakeholder relations, event
planning, and detailed issue correspondence.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop briefing notes for meetings and events attended by the MP
  • Execute follow up to community events and meetings as directed by the Director
  • Develop and execute events led by the Community Office
  • Assist Director in maintaining relationships with community organizations, associations,
    key stakeholders, and residents; proactively reach out to local stakeholders to discuss
    priorities, concerns, and upcoming opportunities
  • Assist Legislative Assistant in responding to written correspondence, with a focus on
    inquiries that pertain to local issues
  • Work with the MP team to assist in the development and implementation of local
    priorities for Ottawa Centre
  • Track local event invitations and meeting requests, prioritizing requests for review by the
    team and the Member
  • Maintain an ongoing local event calendar for office use, monitoring the distribution of
    greetings and remarks developed by the Communications Coordinator
  • Coordinate with team to ensure the delivery of social media and communications
    products as necessary
  • Staff MP at events and meetings as required
  • Attend community events on behalf of the MP and the Constituency Office as required

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:

  • Degree in political science, communications, social sciences, or another relevant
    discipline or field
  • Three years working in event management, communications, or public affairs
  • Oral and written proficiency in professional English and French
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of Ottawa Centre, including key stakeholders, demographics, challenges,
    and opportunities in the riding
  • Highly organized, with strong administrative skills, attention to detail, and the ability to
    multitask
  • Thrives in a dynamic and challenging environment; able to manage multiple priorities
    and meet deadlines under pressure
  • Meticulous attention to detail, especially regarding event coordination
  • Highly engaged with daily news and media
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook

Assets:

  • Proficiency with Facebook, Twitter and other social media
  • Experience with Adobe suite of programs
  • Prior Constituency or Hill experience
  • Network of local contacts; significant prior work experience in Ottawa
  • Full bilingualism in English and French, including the ability to copy-edit and translate
    between the two languages
  • Customer service background and skills; strong ethic of commitment to public and
    customer service

Working Conditions: Full-time work in a busy environment, with evenings and weekends as
required. Must maintain a reasonably flexible schedule.

Reporting Structure: Outreach Coordinator reports to the Constituency Office Director.

Salary: Compensation is dependent on qualifications and experience.
