Winterlude has officially begun

Winterlude has officially begun! Every year thousands of people from around the world come to our nation’s capital to enjoy this truly Canadian event. This year the festival is celebrating 40 years, and I couldn’t be more excited to get out and enjoy winter right here in Ottawa Centre.

I’ve put together a guide of everything that’s going on across the city. I hope you all have the chance to get out and #OwnOurOttawa!

Confederation Park

A must see at Winterlude is the Crystal Garden. Ice carvers from around the world turn blocks of ice into stunning works of art. If you go in the evening they’re even lit up!

The Ice Hog Family

The Ice Hog Family (Mama, Papa and their children, Noumi and Nouma), travel around the festival meetings families.

Subzero concerts

The Subzero Concert Series will liven up Confederation Park every Friday and Saturday evening. Talented Canadian entertainers André-Philippe Gagnon, and Francesco Yates are part of an awesome line-up you don’t want to miss!

Snowflake Kingdom

This year the Kingdom has moved to the north end of Jacques-Cartier Park. It’s the perfect place for the whole family to enjoy activities inspired by the Canadian winter and Northern traditions including snow slides, skiing and snowboarding lessons, and dog sledding.

Skating on the Rideau Canal
Grab your skates and head to the Rideau Canal Skateway! It’s the world’s longest skating rink and a UNESCO world heritage site. The NCC updates their website regularly with skating conditions.

Explore the Unexpected with Parks Canada

Parks Canada works hard to protect Canada’s natural and cultural treasures. Come visit the Discovery Space – you’ll have a chance to go behind the scenes with a Parks Canada archaeologist, learn about park wardens, and much more!

Mosaïvernales

New this year! Stroll through an imaginary world of mythical icons, fairies and gods sculpted in snow.

Free Shuttles
Use the free OLG Sno-Bus to get between official Winterlude sites on weekends. Look for the Winterlude sign to find the stops.  You can use this map for more information:
