The entire length of the Rideau Canal Skateway awaits skaters tomorrow morning

Canada’s Capital Region – The National Capital Commission (NCC) is pleased to inform the public that the full 7.8 kilometres of the Rideau Canal Skateway, from downtown to the Hartwells Locks, will officially open tomorrow morning at 8 am, January 18, 2017.

On Saturday, January 14, the NCC launched the 47th skating season of the Rideau Canal Skateway with a 4.4-kilometre section between the Laurier Avenue Bridge and the Bronson Avenue Bridge. Another 4a00-metre section opened on Sunday, January 15, providing access to a total of 4.8 kilometres. The remaining 3 kilometres of ice will be available to skaters tomorrow morning.

Managed by the NCC since the 1970–1971 season, the world’s largest skating rink receives, on average, close to one million visits every year, with an average of 20,000 visits each day that it is open.
