I am deeply troubled by the attacks at the Islam Care Centre and the Ottawa Main Mosque that have taken place over the past week. There is no place in our society for such disturbing hateful actions that target groups simply because of their faith.
Islamophobia has no place here in Ottawa, or anywhere in Canada, and I strongly condemn it. Our government will continue to stand against discrimination and hatred. I stand up against this kind of hatred and I am engaging with the Muslim community and faith leaders to keep Ottawa inclusive and welcoming of all.
It is crucial that we come together to promote religious tolerance and mutual understanding. As Canadians, diversity is our strength. We must be firm in our condemnation of hate crimes and I know we will move forward together with love, compassion and understanding.
