This week I am highlighting Kids Up Front for Own our Ottawa. They are an awesome organization in Ottawa that collects unused event tickets and gives them to children who otherwise wouldn’t have the chance to go because of socioeconomic barriers.
Tell me a little bit about your organization/initiative.
Kids Up Front Ottawa is a brand-new charity whose mission is to provide free access to arts, culture and sporting events for children who otherwise would not have the opportunity to attend. Kids Up Front provides access to events by collecting donated tickets from venues, companies and individuals, and then redistributing the experiences to deserving children and families through our network of 51 child-serving partnering agencies.
Simply put, Kids Up Front provides “One Little Ticket… and One BIG Lift!”
What do you do to #OwnOurOttawa?
Kids Up Front is owning our Ottawa by filling empty seats with awesome fans! Our program helps reduce systemic social isolation by connecting deserving families to their communities at shows and games they love. Our Founding Partners at OSEG, The Ottawa Senators Foundation and LRO Staffing, have supported us with the resources in our first year to reach out to additional community groups to collaborate with, and grow our network. By opening the doors to events happening all over Ottawa, Kids Up Front is turning unused event tickets into experiences deserving children and youth will never forget!
Why do you think it’s important to #OwnOurOttawa?
At times Ottawa can feel a bit transient for people. Kids Up Front believes it’s important to unite our networks and bring people together within their communities. Our program assists an often under-served and vulnerable population by providing positive and uplifting experiences for families who are otherwise being left out. Ottawa is an amazing city which hosts world class events – we think it’s important that everyone feels welcomed to attend and be a part of the energy, regardless of their socioeconomic status. Kids Up Front is a niche charity whose sole purpose and mission is to repurpose unused event tickets. We think it’s important work because it’s truly a win/win/win for all stakeholders: deserving children and youth get amazing experiences, donors don’t have to see their unused tickets go to waste, and venues have a full audience for their events!
If someone wants to get involved or get more information, where can they go?
Our programs began in Spring 2017, so right now Kids Up Front would appreciate it if everyone could share our message: “We’re open for business, and ready to receive your unused event tickets!” To learn more about or programs, please visit our website: www.kidsupfrontOttawa.com or call 613-230-1111.
